MRV was asked to join the engineering team for upland planning and design for a major expansion to Skagway’s cruise docks and upland visitor services. The new “Ore Dock” is located at the westerly side of the Skagway Waterfront.  This revisioning of the old mine ore dock handling area is revitalized by a new cruise ship float, upland transportation hub, and a new Seawalk that graciously links the older industrial waterfront to the Broadway Docks and primary visitor access to Downtown Skagway.

MRV carefully minimized crosswalks and pinch points to optimize visitor flow and experience. MRV also provided wayfinding design and information kiosks to assist cruise passengers. Covered waiting areas and restrooms were designed to integrate with high volume transportation areas and provide a new look and signature. The Ore Dock waiting area and restrooms take advantage of world-class views offered from the site. Restroom handwashing areas also open up to the sweeping views so passengers don’t miss a moment of this special arrival location.

Phase 1 docks and transfer bridges are under construction with upland phasing to follow.
