Nestled in the rich evergreen forests of Southeast Alaska’s coastline, the house anchors itself to the steep site at the upper entry level, then emerges three levels above ground at the water side. The green metal-sided base blends well into the surrounding forest and requires minimal maintenance. The interior of the upper level living space opens spaciously to the view of the shoreline, active harbor, and mountains beyond. The house is approached from above, with stairs and walkway crossing the garden and small stream. Planted portions blend into undisturbed forest on each side.
