UAS Banfield Residence Hall

MRV designed this 17,000 square foot, three-story dormitory for the Juneau campus of the University of Alaska Southeast, and we continue to be involved with upgrade and expansion projects. There are 84 beds in 42 suites. The building utilizes light gauge steel framing for longevity, and was designed to reduce operating expenses by using high insulation values and air-to-air heat exchange ventilation systems. The central core of the building is an open, multi-use area, connecting the upper levels with an expansive view outward. Interior spaces include special provisions for acoustic separation and room arrangements, which maximize views and privacy. The plan is organized so that pairs of student rooms share a private bathroom. Support spaces in the facility include lounge and activity spaces, study area, kitchenette, and laundry.
