Sitka Tribe of Alaska Clan House
The Sitka Tribe of Alaska (STA) is a federally recognized tribal government with more than 3,000 Alaska Natives as members. One of STA’s responsibilities is to "encourage, guard, and foster the traditional Tlingit practices of the Sitka Native people, including protecting the language, songs, dance, arts, and artifacts." To help achieve this mission, STA contracted with MRV to develop designs for a new Community House and eventual Cultural Center Complex. The Community House is located on a culturally significant site in downtown Sitka, along the waterfront between the Sitka Pioneers’ Home and historic Indian Village. Site development included the main building, support spaces, and an exterior courtyard with seating and totems.
