For this new 11,000 square-foot award-winning facility MRV performed a variety of services including site selection, master planning, architectural design, construction documentation, and construction administration. Building components include classrooms, multi-purpose room, library, kitchen, administrative offices and teacherage. Some of of the key features of the facility are its unique daylighting concepts and passive ventilation, designed with the high cost of local power in mind. Klukwan K-8 school received the Alaska Chapter American Institute of Architects’ highest award for design excellence in 1986, one of only two awards given that year.
